Jack & COke Mixer Match Contest - 4/29/22, 9:45p

Jack & Coke Mixer Match
Friday, April 29, 2022
The Mint Tavern
$10/person
Prelims: 9:45p
Finals: 10:30p

**NOTE: CONTEST IS FULL.  ANY REGISTRATIONS RECEIVED AFTER 4/24/22 WILL BE CONSIDERED AS ALTERNATES AT TIME OF CONTEST**

The world's first ever Jack & Coke Mixer Match happens on Friday, April 29, 2022 at our Swingin' at the Mint Tavern dance, as part of the VegAZ Swing Weekend.

The Jack & Coke Mixer Match is a Vegas-cocktail twist on the Mix & Match (or formerly, contest-that-shall-not-be-named), featuring 7 leaders & 7 followers.

JUDGING CRITERIA
The only hard and fast rule is that being off-time is a negative. Outside of that, the criteria used by the judges will be up to the individual judge.  There will be multiple judges from NV & AZ.

LEADS & FOLLOWS
Rather than numbers, each leader will represent a liquor (vodka, gin, rum, tequila, bourbon, brandy, and rye).  Follows will represent a mixer (club soda, tonic, ginger beer, sour, orange juice, grenadine, and of course, Coke).

PRELIMS
There will be a 1 heat all-skate with all 7 leaders & 7 followers.  The heat will have 4 songs, of 60-90 seconds: medium, slow, fast, funky.  After each song, partners will rotate to a new partner.  The prelims will take place about 9:30p.

FINALS
Three leaders & three followers will be selected to the finals by the judges.
The partners will be assigned (more on that below), and there will be no rotation.  Each couple will participate in a showcase featuring two songs, each song playing for 60 seconds. There will be three showcases of two songs each (one for each couple).  At the end, there will be a final all-skate (all couples at the same time).  Judges will rank the couples 1st, 2nd, 3rd with 1st place receiving trophies.

FINALS SELECTION
The couples for the finals will be chosen by Mark Hefter, owner of the Mint Tavern and head mixologist for the Parkway Taverns in town.  After the prelims have been tallied, Mark will be handed a list with:

3 liquors (the 3 lead finalists)
3 mixers (the 3 follow finalists)
14 ingredients (each ingredient is linked to a song)

Mark will then create 3 different cocktails using one liquor, one mixer, and 2 ingredients. He will have no idea who the dancers are (nor does he care, to be honest) nor what songs are linked to each ingredient.  His only assignment is to make 3 tasty cocktails given the list.

Each cocktail will be made.  After the contest, the finalists will get to drink their combinations.

WINNER
The judges will rank 1st-3rd, and the results will tallied using relative placement.  The winners will each receive a trophy.
